Em's Bread was first launched in 1993 from the home kitchen of Melissa Schroeder. Her journey in bread-making began with a liquid sourdough starter gifted to her by her mother Ethel, whose contribution enabled Melissa to be more active in the lives of her children while continuing to pursue a career in bread-making. After multiple moves following the initiation of her small business and a twelve-year-long career in the corporate world, Melissa decided to transform her passion back into a full-fledged reality. She quickly outgrew her home kitchen and in 2015 moved her business to Findlay Market where she's been ever since. To this day, Em's Bread is still powered by Ethel's original sourdough starter, specializing in sourdough bread and baked goods alike!
